Every year small and large companies are
changing the look and feel of their digital marketing campaigns. It's a trend that is gaining
momentum in the marketplace as more businesses invest in websites and social media. A recent article in CNET Australia showcased the big website redesigns online for 2010
featuring websites such as Flickr, facebook, Myspace, twitter etc. In the introduction the writer says - "Visual change is a necessity on the web and each year we see sites — big and small —change their stripes. Many times this is just to give the site an updated or fresher look
and feel, but it can also be an important part in building room for new
features."
This is a trend that is important for all small - medium businesses and organisations moving forward. Many are already revamping their websites, adding new content and relevant features daily, weekly or monthly. Realising the value in changing content and visuals to appeal to their prospective and returning customers as well as search engines.
Other business websites suffer from long periods of inactivity with no fresh visual content. These businesses will need to look at their online publishing and website marketing strategy (or lack of one) this year, otherwise they might find it difficult to catch up in 2012.
Easy steps to make a difference visually
Changing the visual design of your website doesn't necessarily have to involve starting the entire web development phase all over again. If you already have a well structured business website with a content management system in place, there are some easy steps you can take to make a difference such as:

- Change your images - buy some photolibrary images, or hire a professional
photographer to shoot a unique range of images for your business
- Create new banner ads - with new concepts and designs
- Install a new slide show module compatible with your website
- Change your background image
- Insert a blog section
- Insert a social media forum
- Insert a video module, or create a section for a video channel
- Add social plug-in features for facebook, twitter etc.
If you don't have a CMS website, that's easily remedied. Content management systems are now the standard for all professional business and eCommerce websites. Which means you can transfer content from a static site to a dynamic website quite easily to take advantage of all the different features.
